January 29 - Week 3

What were your technology experiences when you were in grade school and high school?  Do you feel like you were prepared for college and/or the working environment with your skills?

  1. I learned how to type, and navigate the internet, and create powerpoints. I learned the basics. I didn't feel prepared for college with these basic skills because the technology keeps advancing and we need to know more. I always moved when I was about to learn anything more in a computers class which is why I know very little.

  2. When I was in grade school we had computers once a week where we would play games and learn about typing. In middle school we took typing and started using computers to type our papers and look up information. In junior high we had computer class where we learned about sending emails and using different Microsoft programs. In high school we were required to do more projects using the computers and type up papers. I also had a few classes were the teachers would instruct with power point presentations instead of regular lecture. One of my teachers had a smart board that we used to learn with interactive power points, videos and some games.
I feel like overall I was prepared for college and the work environment with the skills I learned in school. We used mostly Microsoft programs in college and I was able to use Excel and Word for my projects, papers, and lab reports. My jobs have also utilized skills from internet research to Word and Excel programs. New things have come about since I graduated but they gave me the tools to learn new things and be able and willing to try new technologies.

  3. In elementary school we did alot with computers in the computer lab. Twice a week we would have media time for one hour, during this time our librarian would have projects for us to complete in that hour. These projects were usually projects that made us better with the computer and were interesting topics for us. In high school we were very technological advanced. I took several computer lieteracy classes that were required, then took even more classes over the ins and outs of Microsoft and other software. I definitely feel like I was prepared for college because I have taken several online classes that I haven't had any issues with and I often have to help others who didn't receive the same training on computers as I did. At work I am constantly organizing files electronically for my supervisor for she is not computer savvy and our bank is advancing more and more in technology.

  4. In grade school I really didn't learn much about any kind of technology. We used chalk boards and projectors. In hgih school I used some on computers but not a lot. We used letters to make pictures and learned how to use keyboard. I do believe I was ready for college with technology. I took some extra computer classes in college to learn more.

  5. During my time in elementary /high school, there were no technological devices in our classrooms. the teacher used a chalkboard and projector, and in high school the most advanced technology was an electric typewriter. No, I was not prepared for college with the knowledge I had from high school. I have gained a little knowledge of computers by using them on my own.

  6. I pretty much didn't have technology when I went through school. I had a computer class when I reached high school, but it was just for learning the keys. The time that I grew up in we were encouraged to go outside or we was kicked out. During Saturday morning while mom was cleaning I would get kicked out of the house, was told to leave and don't be late for lunch or supper. Enough of that! If I would have went to college right after school then I would have been ready, since I didn't and I waited until later on in life, messed around enough on the computer to be dangerous , I can know say I'm ready.

  8. in grade school, I didn't use a computer until 5th grade and that was to write papers. in high school, I didn't really use computers until my senior year when I took my computer class. I was kind of prepared when I started college but there is still a lot to learn.

  9. My first experience with technology in grade school was putting in letters and numbers into the computer and would make a picture come up on the screen. I also took typing in high school. The typing prepared me for college. Most of the knowledge I have now about technology has been self taught, just by trying to keep up with the times.

  10. I remember my very first computers class. Our class was one of the first classes to have available to us. We all typed for the 47 minutes that we were in the class. To strengthen out typing skills. I hated it because I wasn't very good at typing. Since then, I've been in a few computers classes since and along with my own interest with technology, I have become a well rounded typer and I am very comfortable using technology for work and school.

  11. My technology experiences started in 8th grade. All students were required to take a typing class, and we learned how to type on a typewriter. In high school all my teachers used an overhead projector. On a rare occasion we would be allowed to watch an educational film, and we used VHS tapes. As a teenager, I felt very prepared for college and the working environment. Technology changes so quickly. Now I feel way behind in understanding and using electronic devices.

  12. Technology for me began in gradeschool when our classroom had 2 big box like computers. We were allowed to play educational games on them during snack time or break time. Junior high was my first real experience with a computer. We learned typewriting skills and how to write a letter and a paper. Going into High School I was pretty comfortable with computers but I also had another computer class that just showed you how to use word, excel, powerpoint, and all of the other programs. I feel like I was very prepared coming into college, but then again I was kind of brought up in this technology age.

  13. In grade school and middle school I never used computers we used chalk boards and projectors. In high school I had one computer class to help me learn the basics of the computer and the computer keys. Everything is so different now. I was not prepared for college technology since it has been many years since I graduated high school.
